The Fondazione AURAP permanently hosts twelve young adults with autism disorders. Assuming the care of these twelve people is all-inclusive, throughout the span of the day, the week and the year. Parents and close relatives of the young people take an active part in their journey. The co-ordination of services is assumed by specialized workers trained in the treatment of autism.
Where is all of this happening? In Casale Forabosco (road to Brufa, 06135 Perugia, tel. 0755990840) located in the countryside near the mediaeval village of Collestrada, a real paradise of silence, rest and organic horticulture.
It is a family-style agriturismo where the passion and generosity of the people who live and work there is catching. The integration of social- and work-life there is not just empty words, but a useful reality for many. In fact, numerous activities open to all are organized in this oasis of peace conducive to walks through the woods and to an understanding of botany, so much so that even the littlest ones and their teachers are frequent visitors, if only for a day. Lucky pupils! But on 19 May, even we will be fortunate because we can head there to attend the Festa dei boschi, organized with other institutions belonging to the Fondo Ambiente Italiano (FAI), with a day full of workshops, shows, walks, exhibitions and good food.
The distinctive activity of this place is something really special. It is called onoterapia and consists in getting closer to the donkeys found there. The connection with these gentle, intelligent animals with soft skin represents an occasion to obtain results on the levels of communication and well-being.
And so, in the lovely, verdant countryside of Perugia, there is a place where everyone, including young people with disabilities and people without prejudice experiment with a more patient, tranquil, affectionate way of living. In the fragrant month of May, there is no more pleasing experience than this one.
