COLORIAMO I CIELI – LET’S COLOUR THE SKIES

The May first long weekend is a chance for many Italians to go on a day trip or to enjoy a classic picnic with friends. But in the Umbrian tradition, there is also another regular date: the kite festival at Castiglione del Lago (la festa degli aquiloni a Castiglione del Lago) in the green zone of the former Eleuteri airport.
It is an international event that began more than twenty years ago and draws kiters from around the world. Participants try to wow one another with their originality while kites by the thousands, in various colours and shapes, are glide across the sky in spectacular displays.
Not only will there be kites and hot-air balloons in the sky and thousands of people with turned-up noses, but there will also be stands, meetings and other initiatives promoted by the Associazione Aquilonisti del Trasimeno and by the Comune (Town) di Castiglione del Lago. In addition to the main event, visitors will find many delightful suggestions for moments of quiet and relaxation in a place that will be an open-air window on the area.
A must for both adults and children!
