Spring is not here yet but there is an exciting feeling around: the days are longer and the mimosa is already in bloom, so it is time to prepare the next event of Lingua Libera Tutti dedicated to our friends and associates.
We’re thinking of visiting a small village near Foligno, Bevagna, part of the Umbrian territory with its ancient characteristic of medieval craftsmanship that, in spring or rather during the summer solstice, arouses a great deal of interest because of the Mercato delle Gaite.
The Mercato delle Gaite is an historical re-enactment whose objective is to reconstruct daily life in the Middle Ages and the competition among the four gaite (neighbourhoods) into which Bevagna was divided in ancient times: San Giorgio, San Giovanni, Santa Maria e San Pietro.
As an historical reference, its focus is the years between 1250 and 1350. The festival is always held in the week between the last two Sundays of June and has received numerous awards from the academic world for the accuracy of its reconstructions.
Open workshops where paper, wax, paintings and silk fabrics are made enliven the week of the Gaite with colour, sound, good food and even better wine.
We at Lingua Libera Tutti plan to go in May to enjoy the spectacle of the little town itself: the breathtaking views and the open shops that we can visit in complete tranquillity, ending the day with a well-deserved tasting of food and wine. See you soon in Bevagna then, so let’s keep an opening in our schedules!
