Umbria Jazz (abbreviated UJ), begun in 1973 and held annually in Perugia in July, is the most important Italian jazz music festival.

A few names: Ornette Coleman, Van Morrison, Bobby McFerrin, Earth, Wind & Fire, James Brown and Manhattan TransferCaetano Veloso) Prince. But UJ isn’t just great concerts, it’s much more. The city is transformed into an open-air stage. No matter where you go or with whom in the centre of town, you’ll find yourself immersed in the UJ atmosphere. From 10.00 a.m. until 2.00 in the morning, there is music everywhere. People meet, dance and play instruments. Ten days of celebration, joy and music.

You can listen to the band that is playing and go on a musical tour of Perugia, listen to a jam session while you sip a good cup of coffee, dance in Piazza IV Novembre during the evening concert, have a piece of pizza while waiting for the concert to begin, chat with others while waiting in line for tickets. For jazz lovers and for the curious, there are also concert tickets for sale for Arena Santa Giuliana and Teatro Morlacchi. Starting this year, there will also be concerts at Basilica di San Pietro and Teatro Pavone…
